The second black box is inference — what happens when you actually converse with the AI. At that stage, the system does not modify its own synapses or model weights. It can only read its memory as a kind of text file: your previous conversation, any document you have asked it to consider, up to roughly one million tokens of context. But for every word it produces, it attends to every word that has come before. Every output depends on every previous input in a vast matrix of attention.
