I think the hype that I see in general is the idea that when you have these AIs, you won’t need people to do stuff, or there isn’t value in humans doing stuff. Because what I see when I talk to folks in AI is: “AI can write text. Wikipedia is a bunch of text. Why doesn’t the AI just write Wikipedia?” But in fact, what I explain to them is: what the volunteers do — what you all do — the very last step is the text. You interface as text, but it’s about looking at sources, making judgments, thinking about things, discussing things, and the sentences of the article are at the very, very end of that. All that other work is not just writing text. And so if you have an LLM who’s just writing a bunch of text, you don’t actually get there.
